Sort of -- nowadays there's the weekly Micro Game Art Challenge (MGAC) in the Game Art WIP forums, the Hardcore Modeling Challenge, Dominance War, and the main game art competiton that is shared between this forum and Game-Artist.net (which is now officially part of CG Talk and will eventually be merged).

-The MGAC is weekly with super-low specs. It's run by various users. The winner picks the next topic and runs/judges the next competition thread. The current topic is #72: The 128 Challenge, Household items.

-The HCRMOD is over a longer time period, and focuses on detailed high poly models. The current one is just starting. The winner gets bragging rights and a small banner.

-Dominance War is a large annual game art battle between various computer graphics forums, and is sponsored by a number of software and hardware companies (BOXX, Wacom, Pixologic, etc.) and gives out prizes.

-The Game Art Challenge shared between CG Talk and Game-Artist.net is also sponsored by various companies and gives out prizes. The last one ended on April 5th.

As far as I know, the only reason for keeping this section of the forum around is for archival purposes.
