Maya brake cable collision

Hello all

I am new to this forum and I hope to become an active member here. However I would like to start of with a question and I hope someone is able and willing to help me.

I am working on my first real project which is modeling a bicycle. I am nearly done and I am at the point of rigging the brake cable for the rear brakes, connected to the handle bar. I created joints and an IK handle and binded that to the cable (nurbs surface). Everything works fine and when I turn the bicycle handles the cable rotates with it. My problem is that the cable is not respecting the surface of the bicycle frame and cable holder and goes right through it when turning. Is there a way to block the cable from going through other objects? I was reading about collisions and constraints, but all I found was related to cloth, hair and fluids, and I don't know if that is the right way to go in my case.

I attached some screenshot to illustrate the problem.

Thank you for any help on how to do this or pointing me in the right direction.
