Yeah, it's all sorts of wonky making it work, but the results are nice, plus fire actually works as fire should, it illuminates!

Trying out some Xplosia with VrayforC4D 3.6.

Next on my list is fire/flame, and am facing serious user error, so I'm waiting on some enlightenment from the Vray forums before proceeding in that arena.

Looking good, Luke. And your impressions on prep and render times?

Thanks Luke, IMO the first seems to have too fast small noise at end, it somewhats loose the initial smoke feel.
The second the behavior seems like fog or a cloud forming and vanishing, looks good. It appears like those time lapse.

Both were fantastic; mo issues there. It rendered an order of magnitude faster (and cleaner) than using the Volume Fog technique to generate cloud formations.

Completely agree; it was a longer sim (an hour or so), and I was really focusing more on the Vray side of the workflow rather than Xplosia.

Don't believe I saw these before. Pretty cool. Any comparisons with Cycles4D speed-wise, etc?

Here you go:

I removed all the xParticles nodes & tags so there wouldn't be any plugin conflicts if anyone else wanted to take a look, and I included just one cache file (otherwise it would have been a very large ZIP file). You'll have to go into VrayVolumeGrid --> Input Tab --> Cache Path and relink the file. If you have an animation with a VDB file sequence, you can use Houdini syntax; i,e- "MyCache_00001.vdb" would be "MyCache_$F5" - with 5 being the amount of digits in the file name padding.

I still don't know how to render Fire using the temperature/heat channels and the Fire tab; not sure if user error or current limitation. Will have to remind Stefan about this again, as his previous example just remapped the color of the smoke/density channel to red/orange.

As for render speeds - really, really good. I haven't used Cycles, so I can't comment or compare there - but I'm quite impressed with the speeds I got in these simple scenes. Much faster than trying to use a noise shader within Vray fog.

That's because you don't need a shader. All the material/render settings are done inside the VrayVolumeGrid object.

Here's the scene with xParticle items; everything is pretty generic.

Hi Luke,

Thank's I understand all for Vrai, but I realise en VDB animation, and try to render under Vrai 3.6.....
In the preview window I see the animation, but when I render I have nothing.... In the Menu Input /cache Path I choose our animation.
And in VDB infos I write:i,e- "MyCache_00001.vdb" would be "MyCache_$F5"

But nothing....

I sent you a PM to help with the Vray debugging.
