HELP.. Displacement Map Problem (MUDBOX/MAYA)

Been working on a project for University and finally at the stage of importing maps from Mudbox back into Maya. For around three days now i have been trying to extract a displacement map to then apply it in Maya, but with no real success. The First 2 links are the maya renders with the displacement map attached through the hypershade channel, they where my best results. Apart from the eyes, mouth and ears the displacement map isnt holding the level of detail that i need as shown in the 3rd link of the mesh in Mudbox.

If anyone has any idea of why the mesh in Maya is deforming in that way i would be very thankful if u could help me, also if anyone knows how to boost the level of detail on the displacement maps that would be greatly appreciated.
