COMMENTS & DESCRIPTION

Toph Bei Fong, the greatest earthbender and inventor of metal bending. I would have to say that Toph is probably my favorite female character ever. I always thought it was a stroke of genius by the creators of Avatar to put that much power, attitude and sass in such a small package. The whole series is loaded with great female characters but for me Toph is at the top. I decided to recreate the moment at Earth Rumble 6 when Toph flings the Boulder out of the ring to retain her title as Earthbending Champion.

I have enjoyed this contest immensely. There's nothing better than working on a character you love to keep you inspired. For this challenge I decided I was going to go all in with Lightwave's new implementation of Bullet Soft Body dynamics. I learned quite a bit about what does and doesn't work in the process but I love the end result. All of the basic clothing shapes are bullet which I then sculpted in ZBrush. I also decided pretty quickly that I was going to need to figure out Fibermesh if I was going to get a handle on Toph's giant bun. Regular sculpting just wasn't cutting it. I think this is the biggest character I've made so far, 12 million polys (~1.5 is the hair ). Quite a workout for my new rig but it handled it in stride.

Once again I'd like to thank StarAstralis for her help and everyone else for their support.
Good luck everyone.

Description
This Reboot is another slant on the Tomb Raider character. I wanted the characterization to be a bit tougher, more stringy and cheekier than the film version because it has no dialogue to help it's story along the way as a film version does. Because I wanted to develop this figure for games I wanted it to be interesting from more angles than just the front but also to follow. Using a combination of zbrush and 3dsmax and trying out new tools and techniques with them is really one of the really nice things about challenges plus the great comments from patient co competitors. Definitely a very humbling experience. Thanks for all the fun chaps and lasses and thanks Roberto for hosting the comp.

HMC#37 'FemmeFatale' Michelle Pfeiffer by Nat!

Comments & Description:
ZBrush 4.5 HD Modeling - 3D Coat 4 Low rez retopology - Maya Rig - Maya UV unfolding - Photoshop HD Texturing - Maya Hair - Maya Mental Ray Rendering - 2 months Hardcore challenge worked after my job each night (late nights because it was pretty long to achieve, and especially the Texturing part and the hair process which took me many many nights over the last week) and I've been workin on this HMC every weekend long as well since I decided to be on it.

Here is a comment I posted on my thread on the 9th March to explain what I expected me to do (speaking about Michelle Pfeiffer pic I wanted to show when finished):
"For this challenge all I'ld like to manage to do is to make a pic that would look alike her as much as poss and also a sensitive/aesthetics/attractive and sensual pic as a tribute to her 'Femme fatale' timeless beauty, because she still has the beauty of a 'femme fatale' however she is old enough to be a mother for all of us here. Then I'm doing my own interpretation of her in nighty with a nice and large cleavage subtly showing one of her breast to give her some good femme fatale sex appeal, such as if it's bed time and she is waiting for someone...which is IMO a stronger design to represent a 'femme fatale' than to make her look like a soldier or any kinda game character, and also because it matches with my current will to try a realistic approach of this model."

FINAL HCR Challenge#37: Femme Fatale-Morrigan(Darkstalkers)

ARTIST NAME: reedomatic01

BEAUTY RENDER

HIREZ RENDER LINK

COMMENTS & DESCRIPTION : This was a really fun challenge to participate in. I chose the character Morrigan from the Darkstalkers video games. I ended up creating the basemesh in maya and detailing in zbrush. Used zbrush to retopo the basemesh, returned new mesh to maya with normal, AO and cavity maps. Used viewport 2.0 to do realtime renders in the viewport. Final composite was in photoshop.

Comments:
I modeled Isabel from the movie Your Highness. I feel like this is my strongest entry in any of the HCR challenges yet and my best female model to date. With that said I feel like I have improved but know it could still be better. I think I will want to revisit her later with fresh eyes.

WIP THREAD: Catwoman/Hepburn

COMMENTS & DESCRIPTION: The idea was to create a Catwoman as if Adam Hughes was directing, and Audrey Hepburn was cast. I wanted to use his comic art of the character as art direction, and also change the character enough that it could stand up in a cinematic production. I had very little time to work on this project as I work full time and the office is two hours away from home. So at the start I was kind of doing alot of pre amble.
When I did get time to do some work, I found getting Audrey's likeness very difficult. Her face is pretty much asymetric. I did not find the time to go into the detail I wanted and spent the last two days pretty much working with 1 hours sleep to get it in some kind of final state. The wrinkle sculpting was entirely made up as I went and I am setting up the beauty render as I post this.
Anyway, it was a fun ride and I am glad to meet the artists over the course of the project that discussed the art with me and visa versa.

I have always wanted to mode Pris from Bladerunner, she is a great character and she fit perfectly in this challenge. Thanks to everyone that have shown interest in my wip and commented and helped me improve my model.

Hey guys,

Well I did my best. Thanks to everyone for your feedback to help me improve this. I spent around 25 hours total on the model, and it could definitely use some improvement. I started the model in Maya, but moved over to XSI because I was more familiar with the rigging tools. I'm a pretty useless character modeler, so this was a great learning exercise.
