19 Scientific and Technical Achievements To Receive Academy Awards

For the first time in the history of the Scientific and Technical Awards, a large number of individuals, collectively, will be recognized with an Academy Award of Merit (an Oscar statuette). The award is dedicated to “all those who built and operated film laboratories, for over a century of service to the motion picture industry.

Recipients include artists from Weta, Mudbox, Rythm & Hues, ILM, ZBrush, MotionBuilder and more. Check out the full press release here

All great achievements, but the Pneumatic Car Flipper sounds like the most fun.

Very pleased to see Ofer Alon, founder and (main) developer of Pixologic and ZBrush to be included. His efforts really have changed the industry. Congratulations!

I'm especially glad to see Rhythm & Hues getting a nod (in particular the brilliant folks involved who were name specifically) for their work with Voodoo. If only the world could be exposed to how incredible Voodoo is ... cg production in general would be so vastly different.
Congrats fellas, you deserve it!
