CVMP Conference To Explore Cutting-edge Advances In Post Production

Speakers include Tim Webber, VFX Supervisor on Gravity

London, 23rd October 2013 – The 10th annual CVMP Conference returns to London this November with an incredible line-up of creative and technical speakers.

CVMP 2013 will provide a European forum to discuss and learn about the latest research, advances and state-of-the-art industry practices. It brings together production and post-production specialists from the film, broadcast and games industries alongside imaging and graphics researchers.

The conference will take place for two days on the 6th and 7th November at Leicester Square’s Vue Cinema. A special rate full conference pass is available now for just £200 each (with the discount code vfx200). That’s a saving of £150 off the standard ticket price. Students can pick up a conference pass for only £150.

Anil Kokaram, CVMP Conference Chair and Tech Lead at Youtube/Google comments:
“Attendees can expect talks from technical Oscar winners and a rare exposition of Emmy winning YouTube technology, good lunches, an excellent venue, and a chance to get out of your daily routine and be surprised by new technology and new ideas.”

A SAMPLE OF WHAT’S ON OFFER

Gravity (Framestore)

Framestore's involvement in Alfonso Cuarons' Gravity was far from conventional. Tim’s talk will describe how they employed CG working practices to optimise how the film was planned and filmed, and show how they used novel capture and rendering technologies to bring the directors vision to the big screen.

The Art and Science of Stereo Conversion (Prime Focus)
Eoin Greenham, Global Head of View-D(TM) Pipeline and Rajat Roy, Global Technical Supervisor at Prime Focus will explore in detail the 'Art and Science' of creating compelling stereo 3D imagery from a 2D source with reference to*stereo conversion work on shows such as Gravity, Star Wars Episodes I-III, The Wizard of Oz, World War Z and more.

Beyond the Pixel: Scene representation in the era of computational videography (Intel Institute of Visual Computing)

In his talk, Professor Thorsten Herfet, Director of Research and Operations at the IVCI will give an overview of the European Commission funded project SCENE, which invents a new scene representation maintaining all information captured and enabling pre-processing to add semantic information that eases the post-production process. In addition the talk will demonstrate scalable display walls for extremely high-resolution reproduction of moving images that will support the new workflow.

CVMP is an impartial event organized in partnership with The Foundry and committee members Trinity College Dublin, BBC R&D and the University of Surrey. Leading sponsors include Google, NVIDIA, Framestore, VES (The Visual Effects Society), CG Society and FXGuide.
