Zooooooom!

This is a query about clipping in the zoom process. Is there a setting I should be aware of that will allow me a closer zoom? Often when I try to zoom in on a small mesh area of an object projecting outward (-Z in some programs) it clips the area where I want to zoom in.

That is the answer. I almost feel embarrassed for asking a question, only to discover the solution on my own a few hours later. I remembered the camera has clipping settings, then wondered if I needed to set preferences... no... the 3Dviewport! Yeah.

Thankyou for the timely response.

Hmmm... when zoomed in a bit, I notice panning sideways and up-down goes in jumps. Is there a setting I'm missing to allow for smooth panning?
