That's 5 words. 7 if you count 6 and 5 as words :P

After using Mel Studio LE, using an external editor where you always have to copy and paste scripts from the external editor and into the maya script editor just to test it is very painful and annoying. And Mel Studio's colour highlight is just perfect.

yeap, but mel studio has only a fraction of the features that ultraedit has

Old 04 April 2005   #64
what kind of features from ultraedit do you need to aid in mel scripting?

I use conTEXT cause I don't really need something really heavy cause I tinker around with MEL rather then trying to run the ISS(International Space Station) with it.

The main reason I switched from TextPad to UltraEdit was the function list. This is a list of all the defined procs in a script in a list. You can double click on a procedure name in the list and jump to the line in the script. This is invaluable when your scripts become large.

MEL Studio Pro has this feature too.

Uedit has a lot of little but helpfull functions like Capitalize, Reverse Text, a better search, what the hack... it's a pro editor and supports a lot of file types.

PS. when i'm writting a big script i allways use Uedit but when i'm making small things i allways use MEL Studio over the Script Editor and Uedit cuz i can fastly source it. (with Uedit i make a shelf button with the source "lalala.mel" command)

Yes, in very complex scripting tasks, where you have to manage dozens files and lot of procedures, MEL Studio hit the limit. I would have some more time now to introduce some more features on it.
Anyway I'm using MEL Studio Pro to implement the MEL portion of finalRender for Maya. There are hundreds procedures on them.

I'm on a Mac.. the only way to go IMHO. I use SubEthaEdit... i like it but it doesn't seem as smart as... dare I say... Microsoft's Visual Studio for C++. I like that it gives a drop down list for commands, etc. Going to look in to Emacs. I use that for C++, but I do like Xcode2 for some good 'ol C++. Thanks everyone for your insight.

I use SciTe Text Editor. This one is good for me.

conText is the best, in my opinion, as it doesn't seem to lose any speed in scrolling, even on huge scripts...
