Hair/Fur as tubes MentalRay

Hi guys ...

I spent some time with no luck on searching about rendering hair/fur in MR - maya namely

IS IT POSSIBLE TO RENDER FUR/HAIR IN MR TO BE INTERPRETED AS TUBES NOT AS RIBBONS?

Example of effect. Images comes from Arnold online help https://support.solidangle.com/disp...G/Render+Curves

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I would be grateful for any input ... even such, that it is not possible .

Hair geometry in mental ray it's like "sprite" (2d polygon) with editable normal (by shader). So you may fake tube.

Since mental ray 3.9.0.6 for ray traced hair, mental ray adds caps at the end of the hair cylinders. Added a string option "hair caps" <bool>, to make caps optional. By default, caps are enabled.

Huge thanks PUPPET!!

So by fake you mean put bump or displacement onto individual hair/fur strand ? That way or that way I suppose I'm forced to use your shader to be able put some bump/displace mapping or is it possible within bulit in maya fur shader ??
Thanks Pavel a lot!

There is also very clever idea by Lukas in HERE . He also pointed out to use bump map! So thanks to you too Lukas!
