Vray- can I render Z-depth only to save time?

If so please explain how?

Thanks in advance!
Peace.

You can make a new renderlayer, and add all the geometry to that layer. Then assign a black surface shader to everything as an override.

Create a zDepth element and render. You might want to set the image sampler to "fixed" and set the amount of samples to around 3 or so.

This dummy layer can also function to render out other AOV´s, like AO, normals, world position, velocity etc.

.

But that's gonna remove any transparency in materials or displacment you would want in the z-depth pass.

In that case I'd just disable anything that could slowdown the render like GI , reflection and refraction.

Otherwise the suggested solution would just work fine>
