Is possible to do this at render time?

Is it possible to render a textured box with the front face semitransparent but at render time, and not modeled, maybe thru mel?

ya, you could do it with MEL pre/post render commands:

pre-render:
string $cubey[]=`polyCube -w 100 -h 100 -d 100 -sx 1 -sy 1 -sz 1 -ax 0 1 0 -cuv 4 -ch 1`;

post:

delete $cubey;

you just need to add more stuff to handle the shader assignment to the faces.

Thanks! I knew it. I read about a great plugin for LW that create a box with a hdr image attached to it and makes possible to render textured windows for architectural renderings. That would be a nice idea to add to the maya script for making buildings.

that's the kind of thing that best done in post. Just make a material ID pass and then use it as a mask for some faked building reflections.
