When to Change these settings.

Max samples

Lowering the max sample level gives you lower quality and faster render time.
Lowering the anti-aliasing contrast will bias the sample level towards the max sample level thus giving you better sampling and longer render time.

When to change them depends on whether you want a fast, low quality preview render or a longer higher-quality render.

Preview at -2/0 and render at 0/2. Tweaking the AA contrast requires diagnosing

I sometimes render at -1/1 if I render at frames larger than HD or if I don't feel like waiting XD

*** Know that these values have the highest impact on your render times, generally speaking ***

i render -1/1 unless I'm getting noise and then I up to 0/2.
I lower my AA threshold to red 0.04, green 0.03, blue 0.06. Those are the values from maya software and are based of the sensitivity of the eye to the rgb spectrum, afaik.
When you lower the contrast threshold you tell the renderer to increase the sensitivity of aliasing detection, so it can do its max samples more effectively.

python code
cmds.setAttr('miDefaultOptions.contrastR', 0.04);
cmds.setAttr('miDefaultOptions.contrastG', 0.03);
cmds.setAttr('miDefaultOptions.contrastB', 0.06);

I think i can use them in still renders
does this values really help for still images.....with max sample of 3 ,4.....
Improve the Texture Quality or something?
