One time fluid/particle emision from new pFX torn edges

Hi all - bit of a follow up question to the helpful thread on ncloth tearing.
Im trying to emit particles/fluids from paintfx created at tear edges, which is easy enough, the problem is the fluids or particles are continuously emitting after the tear, where as i want a one time emission upon creation of the paintfx (poly or curve).
Ive tried emitting fluids using from curve option, which gets the one time emission effect i want, but only from the current frame, it wont be applied to future frames, as you might guess.
Anyone any thoughts?

I normally use SOuP for this kind of thing but it really depends on how you have set everything up. With SOuP you can use weight maps with a data container to contain emission values for a small time, that way you get emission but can control how long that emission occurs.

Alternatively you could use an animated ramp on your PFX on a surface emitter.
