Extreme long shot to Extreme close-up?

Extreme long shot to Extreme close-up?

Ok, so i am attempting to do this shot that will start with some extremely high res imagery of a town from extremely far. The images will be projected onto geo and will have a camera flying into one specific window in a tall building where the talent is for the remainder of the shot.

My question is, should i take photography in sections based on how close the camera will be to that detail? the really far stuff does not have to be high res to achieve a "very far dolly" shot. but as it gets closer to some buildings they will need to be higher res (second pictures up closer).

should merge those detail photos to the longshot one all before i project?

how would you tackle this?

At some point, no matter how high-res your long shot is, you're going to have to start switching to closer images of the buildings. The hero building, at the very least. So, I think I would try to split it into four or five level of detail (LOD) segments. They'd overlap for a certain number of frames, so I could cross-dissolve between them in comp. I might also look into finding ways to obscure the transitions: flying through a cloud, or an occasional sideways move to bring something between the camera and the target long enough to hide the change.

thanks for the tips! pretty much figured out I'm going to have to build each building and haver there own level of detail.
