Footage for Reel

Hi, i'm wondering if, from an employer point of view it would be frowned upon if i used some free internet footage or even some of that that came with a couple of tutorials i got to build my compositing reel. I don't have access to a digital camera so i'm kind of dependent on getting plates from a 3rd party to do it.

I think the goal is to take something, anything, and make it look good while showing of your skillset. I think its okay to source footage from the internet to build up a comp. Everyone I know does that on some scale. The trick is to make it look like it isn't.

As for adding scenes from tutorials, well, I'd stay away from that. It doesn't look good if you put a tutorial on your reel, and worse if the people who are reviewing your reel recognize it from someone elses reel.

My 2 cents
