Vray and Max: Multi-Channel EXRs

Hi all,

I am a long time Maya, Nuke, and Mentalray user making a switch to Max, Aftereffects, and Vray for a job. I am having an issue rendering out a multichannel EXR will all my render elements. When saving out my file it dose not automatically render out the passes into the EXR file. I need to go into the Vray frame buffer and save frames by hand. In addition when I view the passes in the frame buffer everything is good however when I import the saved file into nuke the check the passes everything is gray scaled. Any ideas?

You have two options here with vray.

Not using vray frame buffer - When setting your render ouput save file in the common tab once you have set the file extention the setup button will be available. Check render elements automatically add/ remove render elements from render dialog. Make sure the main render output format is set to half float or full float.

Using frame buffer - enable render to vray raw image file. When setting the file make sure save file type is set to exr and check exr use 32 bit output.

with either case you will get a multi channel exr.
