Uninstancer and Massive Importer


A while back I developed a couple plugins for Maya: Uninstancer and Massive Importer. I'm no longer involved in graphics and won't be able to maintain either of them, so I've uploaded the source to sourceforge:


The Uninstancer source hasn't been packaged, so you'll need to access it through SVN or the Sourceforge SVN browser.

I recently received a few questions about Uninstancer not working in Maya 2011 - I suspect this is just a Python version issue and can be fixed by using the raw Python source files (.py's) instead of the compiled ones I released earlier (.pyc's). Unfortunately I no longer have access to Maya so can't confirm if this is true - if anyone is motivated, they can test the theory by downloading/installing the source and loading the plugin exactly how you would with the released version.

I took a stab at zipping up the source - it's been uploaded to the Sourceforge page so you don't need SVN to download it. I'm still not able to test anything, so it may or may not work.

We have it (uninstancer) working at work. I'm going to doublecheck tonight what if anything we had to change to make it work, I seem to remember there being one import line but I can't remember at this second.

Either way, I'll try to post any updates tonight

Any chance you can upload the working files? This would be very useful for maya 2011.

Wow...I was just looking at some code with a comment from a "James Piechota" in it. Too bad you aren't still involved in graphics or you could help me fix some of these bugs :-)

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to get this back to you all.

I just diffed whats on my github account and what we have at work, because I had forgotten
the one change that had to be made.

I will upload the working version tonight when I get home, but here's the fix for now

In ns/maya/Utils.py

change the two lines that say

return timestep.as( MTime.uiUnit())
return timestep.as( MTime.kSeconds)


return timestep.asUnits( MTime.uiUnit() )
return timestep.asUnits( MTime.kSeconds )

If I remember correctly, our lead python dev said that the ".as" usage changed in python 2.5 vs 2.4 so they had to modify the maya one to be "asUnits" now or something of that nature.

Give this a shot and let me know if you have any other problems.

one thing I've noticed is the progress bar window is a little scrunched nowadays as well.
I'll work at some point on cleaning some of the UI stuff up if I have time.

I could REALLY use a good Uninstancer right now. I've tried a couple from CC but they aren't handling the rotationPP and scalePP correctly. I'd like to try Uninstancer, but reading thru this thread, its not clear what I should download from where. Could someone give me the basic instructions?
2012 SAP SP1.

Edit: No worries, I found what I needed.
If animation couldn't change the world, it wouldn't be such a Micky-Mouse place.

Hope you guys will not mind hand holding another noob, but here it goes.

So I downloaded the plugin from redpawFX's last link above^^
Now what?

I have installed scripts before, Qtown for example. But the plugin in this tread has a lot more files in the .zip and the installation instructions are a bit thin, as they don't address all of the files in the download step by step. And a step by step through the process is what I need.

IM working in Maya 2013 on osx 10.8 if anyone is willing to help.

Hi, its fairly simple...

you need to put the scripts into the $MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH

so in your environment, you just need to add a directory to $MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH
that contains

the "ns " directory and the NimbleTools.py file

once there, the nimbleTools shoudl show up in the plugin manager within maya and upon loading the plugin it will create a menu at the top of maya.
