Maya gets scared and turns white?

I read a thread some time back on this problem and recently did a search to find it, but had no luck. I am runnign maya 5 on WXP, with a Quadra FX2000, and when i do a render region that takes a while ( I do large architectural scenes, so they take a while, even the render region) the main monitor that i have maya in goes white, and the only thing i am able to read is the Output window (thank god for progress verbosity) I currently have an apple 23" cinema display for primary and a 17"lcd for text and tear off's. Is this duel monitor setup causing the "whiteout"?
The most anoyying thing about this problem is that when thigns go white, I am unable to press escape to quit rendering...
I thought I read a while back that this is a Windows XP problem? anyone remember that thread? or have any info?

its definatly an XP issue. I have a Quadro FX 1100 on a Boxx with oine monitor. Same goes for me, but I have checked Alias' site in awhile to see if video card drivers have been updated.

Did you say you have or have not checked their site?
And just out of curiousity, how do you know it's an XP problem? This is a pain in the @#& isnt it?

I have not checked their site for updates. I have seen threads about the same topic on XP issues on CGTalk.
I ran Maya 5 5.01 on both XP and 2000,I only have one mointor. XP is the problem with the screen going white, and damn annoying.

if you set the compatibility mode in the maya shortcut to windows 2000 you don't have that white screen problems anymore

// Warning: Your system does not have hardware accelerated OpenGL, or your driver is not configured properly. Maya will continue to run, but you will get significantly better performance with accelerated hardware. //

And I don't have camera names on the vieports and some of my HUDs don't work (they just don't appear on the vieports when I'm turning them on/off).

Does anybody know what I should do with that?

I have geForce4 Ti 4200, and I have tried drivers from nVidia 43.45, 56.72, 61.77....

I have reinstall Maya, remove all prefs and so on, but still it doesn't helps.
Maya 5 is working properly by the way.

Maya appears to be working perfectly. However, when it is running, my Windows tooltips for programs along the taskbar and status bar get blacked out so i can't read them. Anyone else encountered this problem, or know how to fix it?

Cheers.

Hi all

I also have the same problem with Gorgonzola. Here is my system:

Dell dual 3ghz
1g of ram
quadro 3000 w 61.76 driver
Win XP sp1

Startup process: Nod32, Outpost Firewall

This only happen when maya v6 is running. I tried a clean install with older qualified driver from Nvidia, also tried running maya in win2000 mode, all didn't solve the problem.

Please help.

Thank you,
beau

Unhappy Another victim to windows-violence! I need a Mac!!!

I read some interesting stuf here that could help me solve my poor laya display problems.
I recently installed the latest nVidea driver 72.xx for XP. Didn't changed anything.

But at startup I also get the message:
// Warning: Your system does not have hardware accelerated OpenGL, or your driver is not configured properly. Maya will continue to run, but you will get significantly better performance with accelerated hardware. //

Could this be helped by turning my GeForce4 Ti4200 into a quadro like mentioned earlyer?

In older driver versions there was a menu where there were options for the OpenGL (I think). But in the latest driver the word 'OpenGL' is not used once!

I have windows 2000 too, but i didn't use it yet. I'm not sure if i should switch.
I'm using Dual-screen by-the-way!

I have Ti4400 and had the same problem. Then I have installed Riva Tuner and identified my video card as Quadro XGL 750 with it - after that Maya began to work properly BUT after restarting my computer Windows did'st want to start (I had 2000). It just freezed on Windows loading window.

Then I installed XP, and after that IT specialist has come and said that my coller on motherboard don't work. He change it and no everything is fine, with any drivers from NVidia (in fact, you don't need this OpenGL settings which was in the old drivers - they removed them from new ones).

So now I don't know what exactly solved the problem - Win XP or my coller changement. Maybe both.

So my advice to those who has such a problem - check your hardware first(collers in fact).
