Scene Assembly and Assets

I was wondering whether anyone is working with the Scene Assembly feature of Maya. Since I am trying to develop a small pipeline for our project I was checking out the possibilites and encountered a major problem concerning SA in relation to Assets.
When referencing in a character rig with Assembly Reference everything works fine and all edits are stored but as soon as I encapsulate the character in an Asset (with all relevant Attributes and Nodes published) nothing seems to work anymore and no edits are recorded. Furthermore, even the edits from other representations are deleted after switching to the Asset-Representation, which really is rather surprising.
There is no such limitation listed in the Maya 2014 Manual, however.

Does anyone know something about it? Any experience with such animation workflows?
