How to speed up modeling in Maya?
Hi!
Im just starting to learn Maya 2014. I have used XSI and 3dsmax before and it has worked fine when it comes to modeling. Mostly because of the shortcuts that makes modeling go quickly. How should I adapt to Mayas modeling? Shortcuts? The new modeling "system". Any help will do ![]() |

Just watch tons of tutorials to get an idea of what modeling tools are available. Digital tutors has a nice intro to the new modeling toolkit but there are hundreds of free modeling tutorials on youtube. Once you figure out which tools work best for your workflow you can start setting up a custom shelf or marking menu with the tools you use most. One super helpful hotkey, that's not specifically related to modeling, is "g". It is the same as going edit > repeat and is useful for grabbing the last tool you used, or repeating an action over and over. Also these few might be quite obvious but; q, w, e, r for select, move, rotate, and scale.
