Exporting from Maya to Google Sketchup

Hi,

I have Maya 2013 and I have been trying to export models from Maya into Sketchup 2013 but I have been unsuccessful. I get errors in Sketchup upon import. I have tried all of the file formats that Sketchup will take in (Collada and DWG) but it won't accept Maya's version.

Anyone have suggestions on how I can import models into Sketchup from Maya?

Andrew

I usually export my maya model in .3ds. You will need bonustools installed.

Polytrans is perfect if you are serious about doing this all the time. Costs a bit, but is perfect translation from Maya to Sketchup (proxies, cameras, basic materials etc..) - pays for itself over time.

Other than that it is either obj (sketchup has an obj import out there somewhere in the net) or 3ds like VanDerGoes mentioned.

Edit: final option is this - http://www.simlab-soft.com/3d-plugins.aspx if you want to trial.

meshlab has some export options that I think worked for me in the past, can't remember exactly but I think .3ds and collada had some good results coming from mesh lab into sketchup.
