I don't know man, I always felt he was there for me

But yeah, I certainly don't think maya needs the ribbon treatment either!

I think it works 'ok' for small programs with few options, like wordpad.
But for something like 3dsMax...I really didn't like it myself.
Made me feel more lost in the program then just a regular file menu.

Its a UI made for moms and dads, same with touch, ie Win8. Although im fairly weird ( i like a tiling WM on linux, as little mouse movement as possible) i think that most professionals would rather not use a touch/ribbon/big button UI.

That's what I first thought of what the ribbon ui was... but being cgbeige I figured it was something else of the same name I didn't know about. 3dsmax is so slow because of it. Every time I click on anything there's a 1-3 second delay. But MS Word is OK since it's not hardcore like a 3d app.

I'm curious about the first 'short hair' example in one of the demo videos. How do we then render that hair? Is it only renderable though VP2.0 hardware renderer or does it generate curves that can be rendered like Maya hair? Is there any compatibility with it and Mental Ray in Maya?

Cheers,
Brian

My guess (and that is all that it is) is it would follow in the same vein as other hair plugins which contain a solution for both... curves or convert to mesh prior to render, and an option for a custom shader. Being from Disney Animation it's save to assume it could use curves as it would be made compatible with renderman, and they would definitely make sure mentalray is compatible.

That's up to the Chaos Group. I'm sure they'll be adding support for it.

I´m happy to see Maya is going this way. Thanks for being able to stand all our frustration: goleafsgo, Kees, BoostAbuse and others!
I am also happy to see that you were truly hearing and reacting to our user input!
