Question Disappearing Polygons

Okay,
so today I opened up a model Iv been working on recently and it loaded just fine.

It looks like this infact, which is all well and good.

However after I select the object, in Polygon mode, and attempt to add an edge loop (using the 'split selected edge ring' tool) the top half of the mesh disappears!

As I'm sure you'll understand, its incredibly frustrating, and I can't seem to understand why Maya is doing this.
If anyone have ever had this problem and/or knows a solution, Id be incredibly grateful!

Try reapplying a lambert texture to it.

Hey Nureth,

I managed to sort this issue by deleting the history.
Something I completely forgot to do!
But thanks for the advice, if this error happens again, I'll give it a go!
