scale to size

is there any way to get an accurate size from an object?

case in point: im modeling some tubes and want to cap them very precisely with a sphere. but the sphere scale is 1...somewhat arbitrary. im using nurbs for this so i cant really use a measure tool from one vertex to another to get a radius im sort of sliding around the tube end isoparm hoping that i have a radius...but its not precisely at midpoint like you might easily do in rhino for example

..plus even then it would be difficult to manipulate scale to fit the measured dimensions exactly

ive noticed this imprecision in various places. would be great to have precision in selecting arbitrary isoparms too for example.

am i missing something? any ideas appreciated

you can use the measure tool on NURBS Edit Points (which you can snap to), just like you would have on a polygonal vertex points.

So measure the diameter of the end of your NURBS tube, and then create a half-sphere with that radius (d=2r) to cap it.
