Exclamation Maya mesh merging problems

I have been encountering troubles trying to fix my meshs merges lately. When I merge my characters finger with his hand I get this weird line that shows. I just wish to know if there is a way to fix it and if so if someone could tell me how. The image below is what I am talking about.

Have you tried smoothing the normal?
(incase you are not sure where to find it, it's in Polygons -> Normals -> Soften edge )
hope that was of some help
Enjoy...

Looks like your normals are reversed: Normals > Conform.

Also: Display > Polygons > Face Normals.

Hi,
Try Polygon>Normal>soften edge after selecting the edge.

Also, make sure that you merge the vertices after you merge the mesh.
