Question How conform verts of one object to that of a second model?

Let's say I have two grid meshes, one 8 verts by 8 verts and is flat like a plane. The other grid mesh is 5 verts by 5 verts and is not flat, it was created by taking a sub-selection of the first plane, duplicating that as a separate object and then moving verts into a 'little hill' like shape.

Is there a Maya tool or procedure that will make the 5x5 sub-set-verts of the 8x8 grid conform to the "little hill" vertex repositioning of the 2nd grid mesh?

(Of course, this is a simplification of what I'm really look for: how to select one set of verts on one mesh, select a second set of verts (same number of verts) on a second mesh and then have the first set of verts deform to the shape of the second set of verts?)

I dunno.. did you try using a wrap deformer?
blah blah blah

If you have Maya 2014, the NEX tools have a nice poly wrap feature

I'll check out the NEX tools - I do have 2014, just no reason to install it until now.

Essentially, I'm looking for a "shrink wrap" wrap type of operation.

What I'm doing is deforming a library of wigs, ears and other head geometry attachments to a huge library of differently shaped human heads. This needs to be accomplished algorithmically, due to the large number of head geometries.
