Automatic multiple tile uv layout in maya?

hey guys,
this is a question for doing uvs
is there a way,in maya, to layout the uvs in multiple tiles without doing it manually? I have thousands of components
that need to have their own uv square without overlaps going over the lines. So basically I'd like to layout as many shells as I can inside U1 V1, then fit more inside U1 V2, and so on without having to do it manually (it would take a long time)
I know Headus Uv layout has the pack uvs options that would give me what I'm looking for, but I wonder if it's possible within maya's own tools because I don't have the budget for ext applications.

I think the only way to do it natively in maya is the "layout" tool under the Polygons menu in the UV Texture Editor. It doesn't really do a perfect job, but it will likely get you close enough that there would be minimal tweaking.
