Lightbulb Can someone please answer this quick question?

Here is an image of a piece of geometry that I was curious about when modeling in Maya.

Question: Could someone explain to me why this geometry is non planar. I know the definition of non planar, but this piece of geometry seems to qualify for a planar surface. I tried the cleanup tool and it did not work. I was left with more edges and non planar faces. Hope someone can inform me! Thanks guys.

OK first of all, General Discussions is not a catch-all forum for your posts. This should have been posted to the Maya specific forum. I've moved it to the proper forum for you.

To answer your question, and I'm no 3D authority so I may be incorrect, I would believe that the left corner closest to the viewer (4 sided poly) is what is causing the issue. Bisect that into two 3 sided polygons and you should be good to go.

Thank you very much for your response, I will give it a shot. And I apologize for posting in the wrong forum. I joined CGSociety yesterday, so I'm familiarizing myself. I'll post in the Maya forum next time. Again, thank you for the response!

Welcome to the forums, another helpful forum tip is to put something about the topic in your thread title. Thats so others can use this in the future to solve problems of their own.
Your image is gone, so I have no idea what this post is now.
Hope you solved your problem
