Need help in rigging a hanging rope

Ok, to be precise, it is a vine that is haning on another straight vine by 2 ends.

My animator was asking me if i could rig this hanging vine with controllers that are
always right in the center of the vine, not off the vine. Each controller has to move part
of the vine without affecting other controllers.

I tried to use IK handles with 2 bones' roots starting from each hanging point, IK spline,
wire but didn't work. For a second, was even thinking about giving the animator a whole bunch of controllers with raw clusters that will move tiny part of the vine at a time.

If anyone can help me out would be great. Thanks in advance.
