Maya Subsurface Scatter problem

Hello guys,

I'm relatively new to using the Misss fast skin shader within Maya, and even newer to posting on forums so forgive my noobishness.

I'm using a correctly scaled model of a heart within my Maya scene and I'm using the fast skin subsurface scatter shader on the heart while I have Maya physical sun and sky turned on. Everything about the heart looks fine, but it's incredibly noisy. I've pumped the sample rate on the shader to 8096 and that seems to solve the issue, but this seems unusually high and is causing long render times.

Is this normal? or is there an alternate solution to the noisiness of my image?

Many thanks in advance,

i have seen that setting a big value of front scattering needs a large light map sampling to get smooth result.

Try setting the scale conversion to 10 or 100 depending on your scene. It sounds like the scattering depth is too high.
Demo Reel 2012-13!
