Hide various attributes in the Extra Attributes section of the Attribute Editor??

Hey,

Is there a way to hide certain attributes from the attribute editor?

Currently I'm using some custom shaders and all the attributes for the shader appear under the Extra Attributes tab of the Attribute Editor. These are generally editable RGB values that I need to animate. The only problem is that the shader also brings in a load of attributes that I don't need to animate, cluttering up the place and generally making things more difficult. I can hide these attributes from the channel box making things a lot easier to read but with them being RGB values its loads easier to pick a colour using the colour swatches from the attribute editor. but of course then I'm trawling through a long list of useless attributes to find the ones i need.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

you'd need to hack out those parameters in the .MEL files but I wouldn't recommend doing that since it will probably cause instability if Maya expects something to be there and it isn't.

I remember seeing some functionality like this featured in 2013. The idea of creating customized Attribute editor layouts. Did a quick search and found this vid...seemed to be something useful.

While I don't think the result is worth the effort, you could dig in to editorTemplates and manually define the extraAttributes to be hidden. This enables you to define a template for the Attribute Editor to use when a specific nodeType is being displayed.

Note that I don't believe this method to be easily transferrable (in case you wanted to share your code with other users that don't have the template file)
