you didn't download the demo - you must have grabbed the V-Ray installer that needs a dongle so it's not getting a license from the dongle/V-Ray license server. Go to the download page and make sure you get the demo.

i downloaded the demo off the site but its still crashing out maya

i get a // Error: Could not initialize V-Ray DLL

im on osx 10.5 using vray 2.0 do i need to move up to 10.6 to resolve this issue?

ok im gettin a 10.6 cd in soon which i think should resolve the issue i kept telling support what os i have an they kept telln me it works from 10.4 which i think was for 1.0 or so , if all else fail ill move up to 10.8 jus dont want to break my system doing massive os updates.

How has been maya for you on 10.8

it's perfectly fine except for an occasional, small visual glitch in viewport 2 that is being addressed by Apple now.
