Maya Fur with V-Ray

I want to render hair for a bust I am working on, but vray does not seem to render maya fur.

Is there a way to do this or must I use mental ray to render the fur and then comp it? I wanted to utilise v-ray's GI with the fur though...

Last I checked, no it doesn't. You'll have to use Vray's own fur.

Vray does render maya fur and hair in 2012-13 but you have to use the Vray Hair material.

I thought VRay can't render Maya Fur at all. How do you attach the VrayHairMtl to the FurDescription?

Cheers!

I'm not sure, I can't get it work either. I can only confirm that it works with shave haircut.

Yes, Maya Hair works great. I tried Fur just a moment ago in Maya 2012 and could not get it to work. Maybe it requires some kind of specialized setup similar to using the pHair-shader?

Cheers!
