3DSMax Vray to Maya With Just the Materials?

Hi there,

This is my first post! And with it comes a dilemma- I am a novice currently in a digital lighting class at SCAD. I really would like to use some ArchInterior models I got, the problem is they are in 3DSMax format with VRay lighting/rendering. Now, is there a way to import just the models and materials into Maya without the lighting (so I can set up my own lighting, using mental ray to render)? I can get the models into Maya fine after exporting as FBX, but the materials don't do so well... when I open the Hypershade its all a bunch of identical nondescript phongs...

If it is possible at all, I'd love to know! Thank you!

PC specs:
Win7 64 bit Ultimate
Intel i7-3770K
NVIDIA GeForce 660
16GB RAM
