"File contains unknown nodes or data"
Came across a problem... not serious.... but I'm fearful.
I was forced to save in .mb format.... which I'm not a fan of. I like knowing I can edit a broken ascii in a note editor.
Now when I attempt to resave back into .ma I get this error message:
File contains unknown nodes or data. To preserve this information, the current file type cannot be changed.
Using the File > Optimize Scene Size ... "Remove: Unknown nodes" doesn't work.
Any other ideas what could keep this error being so persistant? It started appearing when I changed from 2012 to 2013.

This is usually from nodes that were created by a plugin in that is not loaded.. Until you delete them you won't beable to change your may aformat.
you can get rid of them with this command:
delete `ls -type unknown`
blah blah blah
