Baking materials in maya for use as selection shells in photoshop


Is there a simple way to bake the diffuse from materials applied to a low poly object to a texture so that i can use them as selection shells in photoshop?
It seems like this would be a really simple thing to do but I just can't find a way of doing it successfully.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to use transfer maps to bake diffuse out for a flat matte selection. Just apply lamberts of different colors then bake out the diffuse.

Or color your shells with vertexcolor and export the vertexcolormap using the paint vertexcolor tool (no "fill texture seams" though)
