Creating Text Glitch?

Created a short animation for a client that involves beveling a text. Could not figure out how to get the "Create text" option to work in Maya so I went through Illustrator and individually made each letter a polygon etc. While the end product was nice, the client now wants me to make the same intro for the other hospitals.

When I try to create the Text this is what happens..
It happens whether I check curves trim poly or bevel...

Anyway around this?
He needs this avenir font to be used.

G'day,
Cant say what might be happening when you use 'Create/Text' ...... but if you can start off with an Illustrator file initially (saved in Version 7 format if I recall) and import it into Maya, you can use 'Surfaces/Surfaces/Bevel Plus' to create your logo type in 3D. Its very handy. See how you go.

I've reported this bug at least 3 times since Maya 2011 and it's really annoying that it's still not fixed. I think it only affects non-Truetype fonts (maybe only on OS X too?). In the meantime, you can use Illustrator to make your text paths and import them. If someone with an OpenTYpe or PostScript font on Windows could try it, let me know if it works.

just a note about importing illustrator files into Maya. In the save dialog in Illustrator:

- turn off compression
- turn off include PDF
- save as version CS1-ish.

That will work. Otherwise, it might not import.

Works fine for me standard curve text creation and default bevel options. Just realised Times New Roman was used but the result looks different not sure why that happened. Dont have avenir handy right now but will try again later if you like.

ah yeah, that sucks. Avenir seems to be okay though perhaps that is just defaulting to some regular font for me that just looks like Avenir.

NExt best is to just import curves as mentioned, Ive only got mine to work with illustrator 8 legacy in the past.

that's probably because 8 and earlier didn't save the PDF info in the AI file. Guessing
