Some basic Maya questions...

Hello everyone, I've been working with Maya for the last year or so as part of a class. I'm having a great deal of fun with it however as not all of my classes use Maya specifically, so I end up with some rather basic "new guy" mistakes as most of my time with it is solo, personal projects with no professor to help.

I'm currently working on a model of a jet aircraft and I had finished the upper canopy and went to make the polys transparent. I created a Phong with transparency and applied to the canopy just as I had done to the wind screen with success. For some reason however only some of the polys changed as ordered. About half of them turned green and non-transparent. The mirrored side of the canopy does the opposite and panes that are green on the left side are transparent on the mirrored right side I try re-applying the Phong to the faces and it wont take. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

I'm still pretty new at this so please bear with me.

It sounds like some of your face normals are inverted on the one side. In other words flipped, this may have happen when duplicating from the original side.

So you just need to select the face and invert the normals.
