How to change the root of a spline.

I am trying to loft between two splines. The problem I am having is the loft isn't turning out the way I intend and it is because the root of each spline is in a different location. How can I move or slide the root of a spline so it's start is in the correct place to achieve a nice loft.
Also is there a way to create a loft by ignoring the roots of the splines.
I have attached a image to show what I am seeing.

you need to detach the curve near where you want it to start.. then select the original CV's and joint the curve and then close it again
