Maya File Crashes Upon Opening

So I recently made a build of the Normandy from Mass Effect. Everything went very well, ship modeled, and rendered with an occulsion map. The next day when I went to open the file and begin texturing, maya crashed. It freezes at 99% and when I close the program I receive the ever slightest glimpse of my model (it's as if I'm being teased ). Any solutions?

Seems like your maya did not manage to save your whole scene before it crashes. It will be close to impossible to retrieve the full data.

Do make it a habit to keep your maya scene clean, delete history and unwanted shaders, groups, etc. Lastly, save multiple versions as you work. It's a good habit to save your ass when these things happen.

try IMPORTING the scene into Maya rather than opening it. One other thing you could try is to go to your prefs and turn off the option that restores all the window and panel settings on scene load.

Also, is it saved in binary (.MB) or ASCII (.MA) format?

it's a good idea to always save in ASCII format as this makes files editable by hand if anything "breaks" inside them. A corrupt binary file may well be completely lost, but an ASCII file will often have most or all of the data accessible and consequently retrieveable.

Yeah I'd try importing it.. also I'm guessing that this might have something to do with the textures.. one of them might be corrupted and maya is choking when it tries to read to either update the hypershader icons or the openGL display. I'd try moving all the textures to a temp folder so it can't read them. There's a global to turn off the shader icon updates.. I'll post it when I remember what it is.
