Trouble with texture directories

I am creating a scene and using a flashdrive to transfer the files between several computers. However, on certain (but not all) computers I encounter the problem of textures not loading, saying that the path does not exist. Is there an easy way to fix this? Will I have to reapply all the textures in the scene? The project folder has been set to a folder on the flashdrive itself, though I have been told this is a nono I still would like to work this way if possible.

I will note that one piece of advice I have been given is to make the directory universal, such as C:/ or the Desktop, but I would prefer to simply place backups on certain computers and work the main file off the flashdrive if possible.
