Image plane annoyance

Hi I'm trying to get back into with Maya after not using it for a long time.
Thanks for any help, I feel bad asking such a newbie question.

I've setup a right view image plane quite easily and it flips around for each perspective but when I try and do the same for the front view it just follows the camera around straight on with no perspective, I've set it to fixed in the attributes but it still does it. I'm not doing anything different (well I think I'm not) when setting them up but the front plane always does this.

Am I missing something does the front view work differently when setting up a plane compared to the right?

Thanks for any help
