Noob question! Plz help.

Im new in maya, so this is going to sound pretty silly, I know, but, I can't get the snap tool (v) to work on a curve. What I'm trying to do specifically, is draw a curve and I want it to snap to the center of this other curve circle. But no matter what, it will snap to the center of any other object, but not to the center of ANY curve. What the hell?

The reason why I'm trying to do this, is because I'm following this Digital tutor tutorial. The guy in the video does it, but for some reason I cant.

What am I doing wrong guys?????

Ok, after 2-3 hours of wasted time, I figured out that unless the curve has it's local rotation axes display on, it won't snap to it.

Wtf.... I find maya so different to use than 3Dsmax or XSI.... those 2 are very similar, but maya.... wtf...

Interesting.. well if it makes you feel any better I can't get any kind of shape to snap to another shape without displaying the rotation axis.

You are mistaken - V is used to snap to "points" such as vertices or UV coords.
Use C for snapping to curves.
Nightshade UV Editor (script for Maya) - Extends Maya's default UV Texture Editor with additional tools.

DeadlyNightshade thank you for your reply and Im sorry, but you just didnt understand what I was saying.

I dont want to snap TO the curve. I want to snap to the curves CENTER. So the snap to curve tool doesnt cut it either.

Anyway, I sorted it out. Thanks

You did? How then do you snap to another objects pivot without displaying the pivot first?

Well then you could've centered the pivot, moved the curve to a grid unit, snap to that grid unit and then move back the curve. Is that how you did it?

It's easier to use the Modify > Snap Align Objects > Align Objects[] for these situations. It's pretty intuitive and has a range of alignment and distribution options.

Furthermore, if there is a particular preset that you use frequently, you can just save that to a shelf, MM or hotkey.

For e.g. this:
align -atl -x Mid -y Mid -z Mid;

Aligns the source object to the target object's center (select source first, then target)
