Upgrading from Maya 8.5 - Is it Worth It?

Hi, Folks.

I've been using Maya 8.5 for several years now, and am thinking about upgrading to the latest & greatest version. I strictly use Maya 8.5 for modeling, as part of my 3D art workflow - I don't do any animation. I also render in a different program (Vue). For those of you who've been using Maya for many years, have there been significant advances in the modeling capabilities since version 8.5, or would I just be wasting my hard-earned cash moving to the newest version? Any insights would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Why not download the 30 day trial and take it for a spin before deciding? Since you're already familiar with the way Maya works, you should be able to catch right up, and get a feel for whether it's worth it for you or not

if you are only using it for modeling also try a trial of modo. (unless you are using particles or fluids)

for strictly modeling, IMO probably not worth the $3500 asking price

IMO get Zbrush if you want the latest advancements in modeling

agreed with above comments, not much has changed in modeling but you will love the QT interface thats about it however. Maybe wait for Maya 2014 or 2015 there could be some surprise development then.
