I've read a few places that GPU caches are supposed to support _some_ kind of color data ( I read it as vertex colors a few other places ) , has anyone had any luck actually getting maya to draw anything other than grey in the viewport? I've tried a few things without luck.

Have I been misinterpreting - is it actually possible to get any color info in the viewport? even a flat color would probably be enough (an asset's dominant color should be enough to inform us in our layout workflow)

edit: Naturally, I spend a couple of a couple of hours trying everything except following boostAbuse's comment exactly... 5 mins after asking for help I'm fine FYI all, I just assigned a lambert, set it's color then export a gpuCache. And sure enough the cache re-imports with that same color. The mistake I made was that I didn't expect the exporter to look at the shader at all.
