I think the mental staff really wants us using proxies or assemblies now, really. It would have been nice if they had just said so outright, though. That's one great thing about the Vray staff: they keep the users in the loop and don't seem to hesitate to be honest when something gets broken. From mental, we hear nothing. Ever. We're below their notice and needn't be informed.

I am a mental user, still. Trying not to be biased, but mental ray mastery is an elusive thing and it shouldn't take so much work.

That may be true, but I think in this case it's just a straight-up bug that needs to be fixed. It's been acknowledged as a bug and could possibly be fixed already, but this is autodesk, so that means even if it is fixed, users are likely going to have to pay for another upgrade in order to receive the honor of using particle instances again...
