sIBL_GUI For 3dsMax

sIBL_GUI For 3dsMax

Welcome to Smart IBL - sIBL_GUI For 3dsMax Thread!

The idea behind Smart IBL and sIBL_GUI is to get one click IBL Lighting.

More informations and details are available here: http://smartibl.com/

If you have requests, questions or whatever, you can use this thread or the HDRLabs one: http://www.hdrlabs.com/cgi-bin/foru...num=1271609371/

sIBL_GUI - Inspect Centric Layout

We are currently supporting some Renderers:

- Mental Ray
- VRay

Here is the 3dsMax Templates Centric Thread Post: http://www.hdrlabs.com/cgi-bin/foru...=1223936394/3#3

Autodesk 3dsMax - Helper Script

There is an Helper Script that helps integrating sIBL_GUI smoothly with 3dsMax:

sIBL_GUI For 3dsMax - Helper Script: sIBL_GUI For 3dsMax

The other good news is that now I'm supporting myself 3dsMax Templates, meaning that there are now two new Templates: one for VRay and one for Mental Ray with some cool new features:

- Viewport Visual Feedback that can be oriented.
- Support for SmartIBL 2.0 format extra lights.
- Hierarchical scene setup.

Production Shader Files

To use Mental Ray template you will need unhidden Productions Shaders, I have uploaded the edited ".mi" files ( Don't forget to backup the original ones ):

Screencasts

Two screencasts are hosted on HDRLabs Vimeo Channel:

I've just tested with vray and it works great, apart from trying to gamma correct the background, since I already load my bitmaps in gamma 2.2.

Thanks for sharing, it's really nice to have a vraysun positioned with the hdr.

Are you using Max Gamma / Lut Settings for that ?

Yes, I use gamma in 2.2 and load bitmap in 2.2 also. I guess the workflow with color correct is to use when the input is in 1.0. Apart from this is a great tool.

Hey,

I just released sIBL_GUI 3.0.6 !

I fixed most of the issues people were encountering with sIBL_GUI 3.0.5 initial release.

The features highlights of this version are :
  • FreeImage C/C++ imaging library bind : sIBL_GUI now support a lot more image formats.
  • Threaded Ibl Sets / Templates continous scanners.
  • sIBL_GUI layout is now stored and restored on application start and exit.

3dsMax Templates were also modified / fixed / improved :

Autodesk 3dsMax - Templates :
  • Renderer settings are preserved.
  • Fixed Bug with VRay Dynamic Lights function.
  • Prevented "White Sphere Syndrome" with Hardware Shading.
  • VRay has now a "Shadow Catching Ground", though the feature is not on by default because it's currently blocking bottom Ibl lighting.

I didn't however dealt with the Gamma / Lut 3dsMax settings, I need to figure out a bit how to integrate this.

I also spotted a strange behavior on Windows 7 :
I don't really know what I did, but the other day I installed Softimage 2011 - x64, Visual C# 2010, tweaked a few security settings on my Windows 7 ( Uac, etc ) and since then, if I don't launch sIBL_GUI as Administrator, the application is really slow to startup.
I tried to figure out what was the change, but didn't really managed.

Here is my issue with the VrayMtlWrapper shader : The ground is not letting the Environment Lighting passing through. Those renders are done with VRay for maya but I have the same issue with 3dsMax :

Here is a render with no ground :

and the same with the VrayMtlWrapper shader :

The second render is missing all the bottom lighting from the Environment File, only receiving the ligthing emitted by the base shader of the VrayMtlWrapper.

If someone knows how to fix that, I'm interested

on the ground object
>right click >> VRay properties > uncheck Visible to GI
also turn cast shadows off in object properties

mapping the HDR to the ground would work too

Hello,

This is easy : Download sIBL_GUI and the 3dsMax Helper Script ( Links in the first post ).

Install both, launch 3dsMax as administrator so you can registere 3dsMax as an OLE server with the Helper Script. Once that's done use sIBL_GUI to build light scenes into 3dsMax.

There are 2 screencasts available on Vimeo :

sIBL GUI - In Depth : Wich is an In-Depth review of the application.

sIBL GUI - Quick Start : A Quick Start screencast showing a typical quick session under Maya.

They are for Maya but the principe remains the same.

Let me know if you have any issues
