Perfomance issues with array objects

Hi Everyone!

Im modelling objects like paper stacks or piles of magazines in 3ds max, using the array modifier and some noise to make them realistic. My question now is, do I have to convert the objects to any specific mesh mode or something like that? The only thing I do is, collapsing all the pages / boxes into a single one and then export the file as .3ds

Im using photoshop for texturing and light setup and after importing the .3ds file, the object causes such dramatic perfomance issues to the software and graphic card that Im not able to do anything else than restarting my os.

Am I missing something in 3ds max?
