There are too many things wrong in this scene to explain them all. You're clearly getting ahead of yourself, trying to learn everything at once.
Some things for you to explore:
- materials - never, ever, ever use those Autodesk materials, with mental ray always use A&D
- skylight - if you're not using HDRI, use mr sky (not skylight, and leave sun and sky strength at one)
- exposure - explore this topic in general (photography, cameras...)
- work in scale - no glass is 30cm tall

These are just some things to consider. You will have to spend some more time with both max and mental ray, but pace yourself and go one thing at a time.
